ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ celebrates Manitoba School Library Day 2025!
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ (ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½) is proud to celebrate Manitoba School Library Day/Journée des bibliothèques scolaires du Manitoba on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025. The annual observance, proclaimed by the Honourable Tracy Schmidt, Minister of Education, recognizes the vital role school libraries play in supporting student success across the province.
This year’s theme, Dear School Library, invites students, educators, and families to reflect on the many ways school libraries enrich learning and foster community. In ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, school library learning commons are dynamic spaces where all literacies converge—reading, digital, cultural, and informational.
“School libraries enhance student learning and achievement, support curriculum implementation, and promote a lifelong love of learning,” Schmidt said in the proclamation. “By creating safe and inclusive spaces, they encourage students to explore, question, learn and grow.”
Educational research continues to affirm the connection between high-quality library programs and student achievement, particularly when libraries are “well-staffed, well-stocked, and well-used” (Oberg, 2012). ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½’s library personnel—including library assistants, technicians, teacher-librarians, and support staff—play a critical role in fostering thriving learning and reading communities.
For many ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ families, school libraries serve as community hubs where access to resources, technology, and support is readily available. These welcoming spaces offer a wealth of physical and digital materials, along with expert guidance to help learners of all ages develop a lifelong learning lifestyle.
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ extends heartfelt thanks to its school library teams for their dedication to literacy, equity, and student success. Happy Manitoba School Library Day 2025!
